My Journey to Understanding Leadership

By Moqheeta Mehboob When I first contemplated the concept of leadership, I envisioned public figures or individuals in positions of authority. To me, leaders were separate from ordinary people, embodying authority and control over others. They could be heads of state, community leaders, or even managers in various settings. However, my perspective underwent a profound transformation after attending Sadatullah sir's leadership workshop. The workshop, spanning 75 intense and engaging hours, challenged my preconceived notions and broadened my understanding of leadership. Through Sadatullah sir's insightful sessions, I began to grasp the true essence of leadership beyond mere titles or positions of power. I learned that a leader is defined not by their authority but by their qualities and actions. A leader possesses a clear vision, unwavering willpower, and a wealth of tolerance, persistence, and perseverance. They prioritize the needs of others above their own and are dedicated to...

Seven Reasons Why People Shy From Writing

Image
Seven fears that stop people from writing   We all have come across people who are very knowledgeable and experienced. They are highly articulate and can describe incidents in great detail with the effortless use of colourful vocabulary. Their flow is smooth and enthralling. Yet, when you ask them why don't they write and share their eloquent thoughts with the others, they suddenly go quiet and say its not their cup of tea. I happened to interview few such thinkers and most of them gave very similar reasons.   1.      Who will read my work - If all the writers had this doubt, we wouldn’t have had much literary work in the world to read. The world is full of people with varied reading tastes. And there is equal or more writers who write on such diverse interests.  So, there will always be someone who would be interested in your work.  Anne Frank didn’t write the diary keeping the readers in mind. She simply wrote what she felt was important fo...

Did You Say Thank You?

By Muqheeta Mehboob   I want to present two scenarios to you. After reading, I would like you to answer a few questions. Scenario 1   It was a hot summer evening, and Ali had just returned home from a long day at work. He was exhausted and drained from the scorching heat, and all he could think of was a refreshing drink to quench his thirst.  His wife, Aisha, was in the kitchen preparing dinner, and as she saw him enter, she immediately noticed the tired look on his face. Without a word, she went to the fridge and pulled out a tall glass of milkshake that she had made earlier in the day. "Here, try this," she said, handing him the glass. Ali took the glass and took a sip. The cool, creamy sweetness of the milkshake was just what he needed. "Wow, this is very refreshing," he said, looking at his wife with gratitude. "You have done an amazing job at making this and that too just when I needed it most.’’ Aisha smiled, happy to see her husband feeling better. ...

Seven reasons why people should write

Help to the new writers by Moqheeta Mehboob Language is a unique skill we humans possess. We are constantly using language. Either mentally, verbally or in writing. There are plenty who have mastered the art of presenting the thoughts in the form of speech, whereas some are more proficient at pouring out the thoughts on paper.   Today we will look at the common hiccups faced by novice writers. (To read on why everyone should take up writing, read the article  https://edutopm.blogspot.com/2022/11/seven-reasons-why-people-should-write.html  )   Writing is a great hobby plus a very useful skill. There are many who want to write and take up writing as a regular activity.   ‘I want to write. I need to write. I have to write’.   Most of the budding writers tell this to themselves multiple times in a day. But somehow they don’t manage to sit down to complete the task. Call it procrastination, lack of zeal or lack of confidence, maybe a mixture of all these.  ...

Esophagus - A miraculous creation of Allah swt

Image
Allah’s world In our past editions we have learnt about the amazing world of animals and plants created by Allah swt. But we ourselves - humans, are the best of all creations. And our own body is a magnificent machine which has such unimaginable functions and capabilities.  Today we will look at the esophagus also called the food pipe, which is a thin elongated organ of the human digestive system. Now why did I choose to write about this organ? Have you heard elders asking  the children not to go upside down or bend too much after eating lest the food might come out? Many believe it is possible.  Let us look at the function of the esophagus. It's simple job is to send food to the stomach. How does the food go down? Does gravity help the food to go down? If that's the case then if we stand upside down, the possibility of food coming down is high. But Allah swt being the perfect planner has created our body without flaws. Allah swt has ordered the muscles in the esop...

ISLAMIC INTEGRATED LESSON PLAN

ASCEND SCIENCE LESSON PLANS Topic - Soil Age group - 7-8 years old Assalamu alaikum wrwb Dear Parents and Educators, Giving the right education to children is every parent and teacher's responsibility and to attain right education is a child's right too.  A right education is one which is holistic. Such an education can only come from a balanced approach where the creator of the creation is equally mentioned.  Most of the schools focus a great deal on enquiry based learning, critical thinking, but do not stress on the source of all this knowledge and the creator of all the creation that is being learnt as part of the curriculum.  We at 'Ascend' want children to connect with their creator whenever they learn about His creation.  We will be posting sample lesson plans which can be used by parents and teachers as well. We also make customised lesson plan based on your school's textbooks.  The head of Ascend is trained in Islamic integrated teaching and has provided...
